In 2020 the First TN Development District was awarded a 3 year, 1.3-million-dollar grant from the United States Department of Labor to establish the Caring Workplaces Rural Opportunities Initiative through its Workforce Opportunities for Rural Communities (WORC) grant.In 2020 the First TN Development District was awarded a 3 year, 1.3-million-dollar grant from the United States Department of Labor to establish the Caring Workplaces Rural Opportunities Initiative through its Workforce Opportunities for Rural Communities (WORC) grant.

 In 2023 the First TN Development District was awarded a second round of 3-year (WORC) funding in the amount of 1.5 million dollars, for continuation and enhancement of the Caring Workplaces.

In 2024 the First TN Development District was awarded a 3 year, 3.1-million-dollar grant from the Tn Opioid Abatement Council.

​In 2023 the First TN Development District’s Caring Workplaces was awarded a 1.5 year, 48-thousand-dollar grant from the TN Department of Labor’s Office of Reentry.

ETSU’s Addiction Science Center will serve as a training and data analysis partner. The vision of the Addiction Science Center is a Central Appalachian region free from the burden and consequences of illicit drug abuse. The mission of the Addiction Science Center is to partner with affected communities in Central Appalachia to advance the science of substance abuse prevention and treatment.

Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS’) are individuals with lived addiction experiences who are in long-term recovery. They are available to help navigate individuals towards successful recovery and create a pipeline of employees to be matched with a Caring Workplaces employer.

The American Job Center (AJC) system is a partnership of organizations, working as a team, to promote a universal approach to providing effective workforce assistance to job seekers and businesses. This collaboration of state, regional and local organization is designed to provide a full range of assistance to job seekers and employers under one roof.

Recovery Resources (RR) a successful, men’s recovery housing organization, and Caring Workplaces (CW) have joined forces to open a house in Carter Co. TN. The “James Dean” house provides stable housing, Caring Workplaces designated CPRS, and navigation to employment with local Caring Workplaces employers in Carter County for our shared clients.
