Mayor Fowler stated: “(Charles) is the kind of person that you want to be in your city,” Mayor Fowler said during the ceremony. “He makes Johnson City a better place.” when speaking at an event celebrating Craig Charles. The ETSU alumni and local leader was named Tennessee’s Small Business Person of the Year and his business, Crown Cutz Academy of Barber and Style, being named Tennessee’s minority-owned business of the year.
